Here is an Update- I made this as a breather because painting dead things while things are grim was getting to me a little. Still tried to include the beauty of nature to this piece as per my artist statement.

I'll have a post with some dead animal art up in a bit.

6 day zine

I lost half of my watercolors so most of my work has been kinda shitty.

Day 1: animal crossing came out on the switch so I played it a lot today. News of Corona virus has spread as quickly as the virus itself and my mom started looking for germ X

Day 2: I drove 2 and a half hours to see Tyler and we spent the night watching movies and talking with old friends

Day 3: me and Tyler slept in all day and talked for hours about what we were going to do during the lockdown. He is very kind and supportive during these stressful times

day 4: I drove back home and went to pick up groceries, I could hear a lot of conversations about the virus and there were no more can goods or toilet paper.

Day 5: I go to sleep around 4 am now and I’m exhausted all the time. It’s really hard to have a schedule and no idea if your doing good or not. I feel myself being half-asses with everything

Day 6: my motivation has been gone for a while, but this week has been especially hard. It’s hard to do things neat and have them perfect when you have your family home all the time yelling at you and asking “ is that your best work?” It really takes all the motivation out of you. I usually do a lot better when I’m secluded and able to enjoy my peace. But that’s not the case for this “break” my motivation has died and I find my work getting crappier and crappier as the days go by. I hate spending more than 30 min on a project now, because I know I’ll have to stop and help with the dishes or around with the house and I’m always thrown off my focus... I’m ready for this semester to be over with

Life in Quarantine

This was what happened last week. Mainly college work with a free day here and there.

In this I focused on French wash and a bit on salt lift. The French wash was successful in some frames, others not so much. The salt, however, didn't seem to take very well.

Welcome Home: A Zine

Here is the zine I created based off of the quarantine existence prompt. I decided to write six poems about what I have been feeling during quarantine, and then create watercolor illustrations to accompany them. I scanned the watercolor illustrations and then tried to create a booklet/zine format on Microsoft Word that I could print off and fold. After several failures, I printed individual pages and then glued them together to create an actual handheld zine. I was not pleased with that outcome, so I decided to submit the final product in this format.
Regardless, this was one of my favorite assignments to date. I felt like a weight was lifted off of my shoulders once I created this. My soul needed it, and maybe yours does too. I hope you enjoy.

Plein aire studies

Plein Aire Paintings

Plein Aire Studies

I like that the fence and the gazebo helps move the eyes from foreground to background in this one.

This one was my favorite to paint. The salt lift helped give the yard texture, but I probably go back and make the yard, and the sky, darker.

I like how the texture of the grass turned out in this one, but again, sky need to be darker, along with grass in background.

I was kind of mad that the salt lift did not take very well to this one. However the lines in the dirt do help to lead your eyes to the background.

Plein Air Studies

Here are my four plein air studies. For the first piece, I used a combination of watercolor and gouache, and I also spent time rendering the final product indoors. For the remainder of the pieces, I wanted to accomplish a loose, sketch-like appearance. I had a lot of fun sitting outside and capturing these snapshots of nature. This was the first time that I have painted en plein air, but I enjoyed it and would like to do more of it soon.
Hope you all are doing well.

Factory worker quarantine suit

Factory worker quarantine suit, I wanted to do something really abstract, and I came up with these hats that would serve several purposes. For better visual capabilities and to be able to breath better, the top of the mask has a hole with a filter that allows the worker to be cool while helping with air flow, the shield that drapes down the head is like a mask, to Keep people from breathing on others.

I came up with the idea that each essential worker would be assigned a specific colored tag and number system. Factory workers are red while hospitals would be white or blue depending on if it was a nurse or doctor. I hope y’all enjoy

Steampunk Quarantine Suit

Hi all.
Here is my watercolor steampunk quarantine suit – complete with a plague doctor mask, a small bottle of rubbing alcohol secured to the hat, and a satchel containing pandemic essentials. I had a lot of fun designing this, although it resembles a Halloween costume rather than a protective suit. When I was a child, I loved to draw lush princess dresses in this format. In that sense, this assignment was a refreshing trip back to simpler times.
I hope you all are well!

Decomposing Crow

I didn't get to show you guys this piece for critique so here is my crow

Popcorn

I didn’t have any staples and this is my 2nd try at a flip book, it has watercolor and colored pencils because I didn’t have a brown watercolor.  Please enjoy. I wish I had staples but we don’t have any and i just had my mother flip it

Flipbook

Flip video

Because I used cardstock due to the fact I am limited on my watercolor paper. I realized that the outlines I usually do started to bleed and this flip book decided to look terrible. So when I put the colors it got really muddled. So I will probably make another one today

Flipbook

Disclaimer: I do not own Cookie Monster, all rights reserved to the original maker.

However, I do love the character of Cookie Monster and wanted to keep the idea for this flipbook simple. I do so hope you enjoy it.

Flipbook Illustration

Hi all!
Here is my watercolor flipbook illustration. This assignment was tedious and required a lot of patience, but I learned several important elements about flipbooks throughout the process. If I were to create another flipbook, I would focus on cultivating more animation and movement rather than background and foreground details. I would also experiment with a different medium – maybe acrylic paint pens or markers. Overall, this was a fun assignment. I enjoyed testing the waters on a more illustrative style and see it as something I would love to improve on. Hope you all are well!

Painting for art show

Some of My Fantasy Terrariums

Good morning, everyone! I wanted to share some of my paintings so far along with some comments about them (I ramble a lot so I hope you like reading!). I'll also be entering in some of them into the student show and I'll probably pop them onto my social media later as well!

* * *

This first one is inspired by the story of King Arthur, as some of you might remember!

This next one is inspired by another story related to King Arthur. The idea is based on Sir Gawain, one of the Knights of the Round Table. There are some stories that say Gawain was a knight who was stronger in sunlight and weaker at night so this painting was kinda based on that.
Here we've got a retelling of a Greek myth. There are different variations of it but it's about the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. The long-and-short of it is that Eurydice was sent to the Underworld and Orpheus was given the opportunity to bring her back to the human world so long as he didn't turn back to look at her on their way out. He looked back and she was pulled back down, so he done goofed. The pot in this one is supposed to be a Greek urn. Orpheus is holding a lyre because he's the son of Apollo, a god who's all about music stuff.

Last one! This one is a work-in-progress I got sick of working on so I yoinked it off the board for now! It'll be a sort of retelling of Robin Hood. If the texture looks a bit strange, it's because I'm using iridescent inks and sparkly, mineral paints for highlights.

* * *

Other than that, I'm also working on one loosely inspired by Beauty & the Beast and have ideas for some based on other folktales.

Anyway, that's about all I've got for now. I haven't slept so I'll probably sleep for an embarrassing amount of time.

Saturday, April 4, 2020

Just wanted to pop in and say hi. I am sure I am not alone when I say that I have been feeling a little discouraged in response to recent events and a transition to digital education. I miss the studio atmosphere and being surrounded by creative minds. Regardless, I hope you all are able to cultivate a new normal and create art that heals. I cannot wait to see what we all are able to create in this time, even if it is difficult.

If any of you are ever feeling alone, I am here and would love to listen.
